An email message to musical friends, a gathering in a living room, and a sharing of the love of making music. August 2004, a choir is born! The unnamed choir rehearsed and finally chose the name "Phoenix" for its Christmas debut performances. An appropriate name because most of the singers had been members of choirs under Brenda's direction. Former members of the Sherwood High School Choir, Rotary Youth Choir of Hamilton, Preston High School and Bluevale Collegiate Choirs, Vox Nouveau Singers, current friends and colleagues form this ensemble. "Phoenix" was short-lived because we wanted to avoid confusion with the Phoenix Chamber Choir from Vancouver. Following this, we tried on the 'Brenda Uchimaru Singers' for size, but have finally settled, and will continue our musical journey as Kokoro.
